Harry Leslie Franklin Locke was a family
pediatrician most of his adult life. He was born in Hudson, MA and graduated cum laude
from Tufts Medical College in 1912. He interned at Hartford Hospital and in 1921 began
specialization in pediatrics. He was involved in many health and medical organizations
including the Greater Hartford Tuberculosis and Public Health Society, Greater Hartford
Cerebral Palsy Assn., the American Medical Society, and the Hartford Medical Society as
well as such civic groups as the Founders and Patriots, and the Hartford Civitan Club. He
died in 1968.
Katherine Elizabeth Entress was born in Hartford the ninth of ten children born to
Elizabeth and Albert Entress, well known architectural sculptor in the Hartford area. She
graduated from Hartford Public High School and trained at the Hartford Hospital Training
School before marrying Dr. Locke. She later founded and served on several boards including
the Conn. Council of Girl Scouts, and the Charter Oak Study Club. She was also active with
the Antiquarian and Landmark Society, Wadsworth Atheneum, Mark Twain Memorial, Hartford
Music Club, and the Town and County Club, and also was an active member of the Hartford
Society of Friends (Quakers). She died in 1995.
Located in the Main St. Cemetery of Hudson, MA, this is a
view of the Locke monument looking south. It contains the families of Warren Fifield Locke
and his wife Harriet Isabel Dustin, and Frank Daniel Locke and his wife Carrie Louise
Woodward. Also buried there is Carrie Louise's mother, Abigail C. Woodward.
