In Memory of John D. Locke
March 15, 1917 - Feb 3, 1999
A Gentle Soul
There was a man
Who we knew well
His name was John
He had much to tell.
Always ready to recount an old story
He enjoyed the simple things in life,
Like eating cereal or peanut butter
Or spending time with his wife.
Never did he miss his morning paper
Some things everybody knew,
Like how he loved following world events
And that his favorite color was blue.
He had a real love of animals
The dogs always sat by his side,
Breakfast was a real ritual for them
And in them he could always confide
Manners were always important to him
However, he always spoke his mind,
He knew how to get the message across
In a way that always seemed kind.
He could make us laugh or make us cry
He was dignified and wise,
We could understand his every emotion
When we looked into his deep brown eyes.
We will miss him very much
No one will ever take his place,
He has taught us all by his example
And by the gentle smile on his face.
Much love from,
Frances, Alex and Mary
